A Taste for Hotter, Mintier, Fruitier The Increasaed Craving for Intense Flavors Suggests That the American Palate is Changing'
Such a fascinating read about Middle America. Highlights what and how major food companies -- mostly of packaged foods, are doing to fit consumer needs.
The section about umami added in these prepackaged foods was, well, interesting. It is nauseating how manufacturers preverse the definition of umami and what it is about. My thoughts on umami are here.
Not sure how I feel about this.
SCENTED BANNER NATURA KAIAK from Black Mamba on Vimeo.
ChallengeThe client wanted to make an online campaign to announce that the product had changed — but not much more than that.
We couldn’t show the new fragrance on the internet … Unless we could find a way to put the scent on the banner!
And that is what we did!Solution
First we made an agreement with more than 15 Internet cafés, which are used mostly by young working men who do not have computers in their homes.
Then we created a plug-in that inserted the banner on the Internet cafés’ internet start page.
The banner read,
The best selling men’s fragrance in the country just changed. Want to try it? Click this banner. It’s scented.
After the click the banner went out of the computer screen at the same time a custom hardware developed by us, ejected a paper version of the banner with the scent sample.
Results
The scented banner had a click-through rate of 17.2% — That is 43 times higher than the global average.
10,000 scented banners were distributed in just one weekend.
Another worker at China’s Foxconn Technology Group has died. While few details were released by the state-run Xinhua News Agency, the incident is the 10th death in the past year at the electronics maker. Ironically, the death followed an announcement Monday by Foxconn disputing reports of a sweatshop atmosphere.“We are certainly not running a sweatshop. We are confident we’ll be able to stabilize the situation soon,” the AP quotes Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou.
Last week, a 21-year-old man jumped from a four-story building Friday night after ending his shift at Foxconn. Earlier this month, another worker committed suicide.
Last July, a Foxconn worker committed suicide after being interrogated about a missing iPhone prototype.
Apple cleared Foxconn in 2006, in a report that mentioned lack of overtime as the most serious worker concern.
This makes me ill.
